Today’s Mindset Mistake video is about the importance of a leader recognizing when she has done all there is to do on a given project and graduating to the next level.
With that in mind, I wanted to let you know that this is the last in the series of Mindset Mistake videos. If you missed previous editions and would like to know how to get your hands on them, simply reply to this email and let us know.
In the meantime, this “time slot” in your inbox will not be empty. I’ll be replacing these Mindset Mistakes with Moments of Inspiration for the Conscious Leader. The format will vary from month to month. Sometimes it will be a video, sometimes a simple quote, sometimes just a photo. Whatever the format, they are all selected with the intention of giving you a little boost of encouragement.
As always, if you’d rather read the content than watch the video, simply scroll to the bottom.
I call todays’ Mindset Mistake. . . Missing Graduation.
Although perhaps it’s more correctly, missing the signal that it is time to graduate.
Think back to your elementary school days, you graduated from kindergarten into first grade; then you graduated from elementary to junior high, from junior high into high school; and later you graduated from high school into college.
In each case, you had completed everything that was yours to do in one level and then it was time to step up and learn something new, grow to a new level, in that new position.
Your leadership is the same way. Whether the “school” you are in is a particular position, a specific project, or maybe even a phase of your life, the process is the same. At some point you will have completed everything that is yours to do on that project and its time for you to graduate to the next level. It’s time for you to grow and experience something new.
Your unique gift, your unique contribution that you bring to the world is like a plant; either it’s growing or it’s dying. When you miss the signal to graduate, you are no longer growing. You begin to wither and get stale. Your unique contribution starts to fall away.
Most all of us recognize that signal that it is time to move on, that feeling of boredom, disconnection or lack of interest. . . we are familiar with that, the thing is we just don’t like to admit it. We somehow have this illogical belief that if we feel that way that somehow we have failed.
And yet, exactly the opposite is true. That feeling of disconnection and boredom is nothing more then a signal that it’s time to graduate to the next level. It’s a signal that you have completed everything that is yours to do in that particular place and now it’s time to step up to the next level and grow to the next level.
Take a look around. Is there some area of your life where you need graduate? I’d love to hear what it is.
Until next time…take care.
